This week, spices. Again there are so many to choose from. Each one of the spices below could of had a whole page devoted to them. 

Despite being synonymous with blandness, vanilla is one of the most complex spices in the world and the second most expensive, next to Saffron. 

To glean 1 pound (450 g) of dry saffron requires the harvest of up to 75,000 flowers and 20 hours of labor. 

Nutmeg was once so exotic that the Dutch traded the entire island of Manhattan to the British for the islands that grew nutmeg.

Allspice isn’t a combination of multiple spices. It’s a dry berry from parts of Northern Latin America and the Caribbean. English explorers named it allspice because its aroma has suggestive notes of cinnamon, cloves, and other recognisable spices.

Strawberries

Strawberries are the only fruit that wear their seeds on the outside. The average berry is adorned with some 200 of them. 

Strawberries are members of the rose family.

If all the strawberries produced in California in one year were laid berry to berry, they would go around the world 15 times.

Eight strawberries will provide 140 percent of the recommended daily intake of Vitamin C for kids.

The combination of strawberries and cream was created by Thomas Wolsey in the court of King Henry VIII.

100g of strawberries contains approximately 33 kilocalories, is an excellent source of vitamin C, a good source of manganese.

Honeybee workers must visit 2 million flowers to make one pound of honey. This will  take the hive flying around 55,000 miles to make that pound. Each worker bee will only produce 1/12 of a teaspoon of honey in their lifetime.

Honey contains all of the substances needed to sustain life, including enzymes, water, minerals and vitamins.
